The Law Society of Ontario (LSO), the regulating body of Ontario lawyers, holds elections every 4 years for Ontario’s lawyers to elect Benchers to represent them in the Law Society, similar to how citizens of a city elect city councillors to represent them at City Hall. “Recent calls” is a term to describe a lawyer who has recently been called to the bar, i.e. a lawyer who recently became licensed to practice. Toronto based criminal lawyer Sean Robichaud records a law based podcast called Of Counsel and I was interviewed for a special episode regarding the upcoming Bencher election about the concerns I have as a “recent call.” Head over to the link, or listen to my interview below.
